New website shows dealer cost on new RVs

Before RV enthusiasts head to their local dealership to make a purchase, they can now gather valuable research data on SeeDealerCost.com - a new website that aggregates pricing and product information for RVs, motorcycles, scooters, snowmobiles, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), utility vehicles, boats and personal watercraft (PWCs).

"SeeDealerCost.com doesn't sell RVs, motorcycles or boats, but we do provide hard-to-find dealer invoicing and pricing guidance to help consumers make a more informed purchasing decision," says Dave Taylor, Vice President of SeeDealerCost.com. "Our website is not just about revealing pricing information; we also provide a variety of product information such as standards, product specifications and optional equipment."

Not all makes of RVs are listed, but those that are show the suggested MSRP of the vehicles as well as the dealer invoice price. The service is free and no registration is required.

Here's an example of how the cost figures are presented for some Jayco Class C motorhomes.

The website does not have any listings for Class A motorhomes or bass boats. Since I am not interested in anything else, I would have to say that the website is a bust.

No listings for Fleetwood, Monoco or Winnebago. Hopefully, it's just starting out and will come up to speed soon.

Everyone likes a "Deal", but keep in mind that these dealers have HUGE expenses to have products available for us to "kick the tires" and not have to choose from a picture. Don't try to beat them down beyond a reasonable profit margin. When I upgrade soon, I don't want to shop photos and I want help to keep it going!

I think this is a great tool. Never hurts to go to a negotiation with a little more knowledge.

A general rule of thumb is a 25% discount from the MSRP is within the realm of possibility on a motorhome, especially one on the high end.

The example given for the Jayco Embark QX390 would put the 25% discount from MSRP at almost exactly the stated dealer invoice cost.

Just food for thought ...
