The problem centers on a law passed by the Kansas legislature back in 2002, the same year that the FMCA convention in the Sunflower State drew in 4,700 rigs. That law, passed to massage the feelings of Kansas RV dealers, specifies that no out-of-state vendor may sell in Kansas at a truck or RV show unless they buy a license. Not only can't RVs be sold, neither can anything else. FMCA officials say that's just too much.
Kansas State Fairgrounds folks were hoping something could be done to ease up the law and appease both Kansas RV dealers and the FMCA. But the stalemate never budged, and now the FMCA says they'll be going to Wyoming for their big rally in 2013, which the state fairgrounds hoped would be theirs instead.
It would appear that the "goose egg" logo for the FMCA has become Kansas' own goose egg in its own right.

This was just another attempt by businesses to use the government to try and force people to buy products from them. If they would just offer a fair priced product with good service they would not need the various agencies to try and bring in business for them. the same thing can be said about the RV parks that try to get cities to not allow free RV overnight parking in Walmarts or other places in their cities.
It seems we're seeing more and more of the greedy side of business and government rather than plain good business sense and reason. The income from all those visitors would provide an economic boon to the state, and the Kansas RV dealers lost a great opportunity to present their services to more people than any one of them would see in several years.
I believe the estimated loss of revenue to the Kansas communities was near $25 million dollars! I don't think there are a lot of motor homes sold at one of these conventions, but mostly the attendees already own a coach and at best would be looking. Hard to believe they would be prepared to buy. Other vendors may pose some threat but not enough to negated the business generated around the area by the attendees. Wonder what this does for the Mom and Pop campers who have a little "yard sale" while attending. Guess they would be breaking the law to? The State of Kansas just plain goofed on this one.
GOOD FOR FMCA!!!!!!!!! Some of these politicians just don't get it. I think $25 million is under estimated. Wyo. is a prettier state & I am sure they will roll out the RED CARPET! Kansas has always been ass backwards & I am happy to see folks say....ENOUGH! See you in WYO.
Yeay for Wyoming! can't wait for it. Wyoming is a great, often over-looked state. We have so much to see and enjoy besides Yellowstone. Bring it on campers and see what Wyo has to offer you.
As a past resident of Kansas, I've always been proud of our "level headed" attitude toward most eveything. But I can see that greed and foolishness are now pervasive.
This is what you get when small constitutionally limited government grows way out of control. We have this at the states and Federal levels. When are voters gonna get their head out of the sand and stop voting for the best looking or best speaking; and vote for the limited government guy?
